Any time you introduce a weapon you need to be aware of the legal consequences. If you use a knife you need to be in serious danger or your life is in jeopardy and you only should use the least amount of force necessary to protect yourself.Forehand Knife Grip – Put the butt of the blade in the palm of your hand to prevent it from slipping back when you stab.
Folding Knife – Use a flicking motion to get the blade open. If you want the knife to open silently you can press the locking mechanism in so it doesn’t click as you are opening it.
Bear Hug – Reverse strike with the butt of the knife to the thigh, knee or groin.
Two Hand Grab – Right butt end strike to the right bicep, turn your wrist the other way and butt end strike to the right jaw or forehead.
Switching from Forehand Grip to Reverse Grip (finger flip) – Turn the so that the blade is horizontal, grab the handle between your thumb and middle finger and open the gap then you flip it to the inside.
Switching from Forehand Grip to Reverse Grip (finger twirl) – Twirl the knife up and back toward you between your thumb and pointer finger.
Reverse Grip – Put your thumb on the butt of the blade. Once you slice forward you can use your thumb to spin the handle so the blade can be pulled back.
Knife versus Stick (two hand swing) – Left foot forward, left forearm deflection, right downward slash to his left forearm, put the knife back and reverse the grip, right foot steps forward and across, knife slice to both arms.
Rear Grab – Butt end strike to his thigh, open the knife in the reverse grip and slice to the back of the right knee.
Rear Right Arm Choke – Open knife, slice to his right forearm, reverse grip slice to the back of his right knee.
The Reverse Grip has more option at close combat/clinch range.
Power Throwing is the ability to throw a knife with enough velocity to kill, maim or stun.
You can use ½ in sticks for practice. The knife should not tumble it should fly out like a dart.
Throw #1 – Over hand straight-on throw, Don’t bend your wrist, almost push your hand toward the target rather than swing, thumb should be on top. Don’t point the thumb at the target.
Throw #2 – Side arm. Similar to above but from a side arm.
Throw #3 – Backhand.
When you are throwing a blade stand at an angle to the target so if it doesn’t stick it won’t bounce back and hit you.
Lethal Cuts – Sides of neck, across the throat, down the inner thigh, upwards in to the groin,
Incapacitating Targets – Achilles, Back of Knee, Kidneys, and Forearms.
Taylor provided some knife recommendations from AMK, Gerber, Blackjack, Buck and Catasin.
