    Description

NGC MS-61 1934 Boone Half Dollar Commemorative With Cracked Planchet Error
Cracked planchets are a minor form of a “ragged clip”, or “incomplete planchet”. It’s just matter of the location of the punch in relationship to the ragged edge of
silver strip(at one end of the strip, as the sides of the
    are usually
straight and seldom ragged). Planchet cracks can extend up to ½ inch into the middle area of the coin. They are an artifact left from the rolling of the metal to the required thickness, pressure causing the metal being squeezed to split as the metal flows ahead of the roller.
NGC made it somewhat harder to see, due to the placement of the crack at one of the support “fingers” of the slab, obscuring a portion of the crack. It CAN be seen with the unaided eye.(This placement
happens more times than I would like!! Sometimes a clip family error is completely obscured by the “finger”, yet noted on the label). It is clear in these close-up photos.
As with clip family errors on commemoratives, they are very uncommon. It can stand in any error type collection of coins, or commemorative halves, as a verified example.
The coin in the photos is the actual coin the lucky high bidder will receive.
