PRISTINE GEM 1948 PDS BTW Commemorative Half Dollar Set
All Nice ‘raw’ Premium Grade Coins!
This set (3 Pieces) consists of 1948 –P, 1948-D, and 1948-S
BTW Commemorative Halves, in an old-style (pre-encapsulation) Capital Plastics display holder. I have no idea what the significance of the number taped to the back of the holder might be.
One historic note: Before slabs, lots of high-end, choice and gem coins were placed in Capital Plastics holders, as there was no better way to keep and display them. Only the finest coins
were hand-selected, as these holders were not cheap, and if carefully placed, and assembled, they tended to minimize toning, as the surface contact between the plastic layers was virtually impermeable.
They look REALLY nice together, with only some Extremely light toning on the S mint’s reverse (mentioned for the sake of accuracy).
They are priced to sell, and the coins and Capital Plastics
holder shown in the pictures are the ones the lucky bidder will receive.
My opinion is they all would make great candidates for encapsulation,
due to the lack of visible contact marks throughout!
They will make a great addition to any Commemorative coin set, Display,
or start one for you.
Even a great investment, as there aren’t all that many well matched raw GEM quality 1948 BTW sets available any more. The total minted by each mint
that year was 8,004-8,010 (depending on the source
).
