Vintage ‘60s Ivory Ballantyne Pure Scottish Cashmere Women’s Cardigan Sweater

This is a beautiful 1960s Ballantyne Pure Scottish Cashmere Women’s Cardigan Sweater in a rich ivory color. It is a classic lady’s cardigan. The coveted vintage Ballantyne label is intact. It is in good wearable condition. Sweater is small, please see measurements. There is a tiny hole on the back, a place on the left sleeve that has been mended and a dark spot that should come out with cleaning. (Please see photos.) No significant piling. The original buttons were likely gold metal, but were replaced with early 1990s silver metal with pink jewel centers before the sweater came to me. Vintage’60s buttons are available to restore them to the original look. The last photo is what I believe the original buttons looked like.

Ballantyne clothes were originally sold only at three very high-end London boutiques. It still is sold at the exclusive Bond Street Boutique. Later they were available through department store concessions such as Harrods and Harvey Nichols. Here, because of their value the garments were displayed in plastic bags to protect them from the public. It is said, “Ballantyne cashmere with other cashmeres and high quality wools. By contrast it makes the finest Merino feel like an itchy school jumper.”
Vintage clothing that I sell described as vintage are antiques and are at least 25 years old (unless otherwise stated). Vintage is not brand new, and it may have small snags or pulls in the fabric or a tiny hole here or there. I look over each piece personally and try very hard to mention it in the listing if there is an imperfection. As I am human, I might miss a small imperfection.
There is no return on my items unless I have grossly misrepresented the item. A little snag here or a loose thread there is not a reason for a return.
